Wow. These are... hideous. Not the drawings, mind you. Your talent is doing a tremendous amount of heavy lifting to compensate for Pearl's forgettably bland outfit and Marina's... whatever disaster of two or three themes mixed together. She's like a military alien bikini model, maybe?

"although it was from Shaman King in my case"

That seems oddly familiar. I've seen a few featuring Naruto, Death Note, and various other Shonen characters, but I do recall one with a focus on Shaman King. Not sure where. The only reason to even remember such a thing is because SK isn't a bad series, but it's definitely not one of the more popular ones... you know, like Zatch Bell! Seeing a site with any level of focus on a series such as that one would stand out a little bit (but not enough to recall at this moment). On that strange note, Pearl in this image also seems kind of familiar in spite of how basic she looks. Maybe I saw it in a browser image search long ago shortly after viewing one of your previous works. Asking myself a lot of questions here though I'd hardly call any of them "philosophical."

ICam2k responds:

Well, at least you can rest easy knowing that these outfits didn't make in the cut (even though I genuinely like'em) (or I should say did make in the artbook and not in the games since they can still be seen through purchasing the said book... even though it's only stuck in Japan and not anywhere else and it's still in the process of being translated) and besides, there are worse things to be concerned about like... Bigman in a leotard while he has a bunch of chains' wrapped around him and wearing a bowlcut wig... and he was holding a firecracker. (you wish I was joking, you wish). Funny that you mention that because she is in fact a military ingineer. Or at least she was after defecting from the army after having heard that "heavenly melody", but she still did the Shifty Stations among other technological feats so she's probably a different kind of engineer. And octarians do have such things like floating platforms and UFO like ships despite their technology being built on human scraps. Heck, Octarian" is in fact a portmanteau of "octo" and "alien", so you're not wrong about the assumption despite the jab intent. lol
I've seen Naruto and Shaman King through Jetix, but not Death Note. That would be through Animax after switching through channels out of boredom (this also includes Fullmetal Alchemist). Even though I cherish all these shows, Shaman King is still the one that stuck with me the most. There's just something about it that just stands from the crowd to me y'know? And I know for the fact that I rambled on and on about why I like that anime so I'm going to spare you from the possible repetition here. I do acknowledge that this series is unfortunately too niche for many to get into, so the best it has is the cult following. But that's not enough to stop me from revisiting it from time to time. The memories upon first viewing it from start to finish are just too signifcant too for me. heh
I almost had no idea what Zatch Bell was until I looked up images. I almost though it was some obscure American sitcom upon hearing the title. Never watched it though, is it any good?
Hmm, I always felt Pearl resembled the "radical punk gang" aesthetic upon discovering, but she does seem to allude other character archetypes that are somewhat close to that. Based on my knowledge, most often make connections to Biggie Smalls (same with Marina with 2Pac) due to her OE hoodie and her japanese name "Hime Houzuki" which are names for the two squid species at vastly different sizes that contrast one another.
Life can be an unpredictable rollercoaster. You never know if anything's philosophical or not... nah I'm obviously messing around. Or do I?

Only 76 views? That's shockingly low for a FP piece. Regardless, your colors are as dazzling as always. Definitely worth the long wait. Not sure who is being tossed up in the air by Brighton and Twila or who this Great-Crossover person is, but I'm going to safely assume they loved your gift. On a side note, I'm a big fan of Mario Sunshine (favorite 3D Mario game), so I'm always in favor of seeing new fanart including Shine Sprites.

Hope you've been well, SS. I was wondering about your long absence, but when I noticed you had finally posted new artwork, I didn't have time to leave a comment due to a long road trip I had planned months in advance to visit mom. I apologize.

ShellySunshine responds:

I didn't even realize that this piece was a front page piece until you said something about it. I didn't get notifications about it. It was rewarded over a week ago and I didn't realize it. o_o I figured Newgrounds would have informed me about this, but they didn't and... that's pretty interesting. But hey, good to know more information how the front page works!

I'm shocked that I managed to get frontpaged, but I'm mostly happy about it. I didn't think I would see the day, but yet here we are! Thanks for telling me though, and thanks to the Newgrounds team to frontpaging this! Deeply appreciated!

As for views... I don't expect views much since obscurity and I think NG folks prefers games and movies over art mostly. That and I don't think they do much anyways.

Thank you! The person being thrown is Great-Crossover's mascot/sona! She said it was the best she has had, so I'm pretty happy she's happy with it. :D I love Mario Sunshine too, just not one-hundred percenting it lol. I really do wish Nintendo utilizes Shine Sprites and Power Moons more often, but I guess it will be up to me to draw them when appropriate.

I've been all right. Just life things, really. Ups and downs. It's almost summer so my activity tends to dwindle when it's nice and warm out (versus winter where I have more time due to not having as much to do). That, and my art lately hasn't been coming out like I want them to. I have ideas and motivation, but I lose motivation when pieces don't look like they are worth finishing. I do try to fight against that, I suppose.

That's probably why I have been quiet, but I rest assure you I check in on NG when possible. I will admit that I either forget to check, or my mindset isn't in the right spot. I usually make a post if I ever decide to stop using a website for a while.

It's perfectly fine that you haven't had the chance to leave feedback. I figured things on your end are up. It's good to hear you take the time to plan and visit your mom though! I'm sure she appreciates seeing you in person ever so often! I was wondering about you myself, coincidentally enough. You don't have to apologize for that though.

Thank you again!

Who's the "shocking final boss" mentioned? I thought it was that, um, octopus DJ guy who showed up in the sequel.

Never had any interest in the games since I'm not a fan of FPSers, but I never let that stop me from enjoying a great soundtrack and the remixes inspired by it (especially from both KFAD events). Aside from that, your fanart is probably the only other thing I can appreciate about the series. Still, that in and of itself is worth thanking Splatoon for, I suppose. It brought out the best in Cami's talent and everyone else gets to benefit because of that.

ICam2k responds:

Nope. It was the fat cat that judges everyone in every match! Silly you!
I think the very first time I ever tried out a FPS was through Counter Strike after my brother installed it on the family computer before locking on it indefinitely while outwardly arguing with me to stop watching a Youtube video because it was intervening with the internet signal. I think there where certain maps that were intriguing like the giant house map and the abandoned city. Mostly had fun exploring these with the game's physics rather than shooting. Then again, my brother eventually began playing race based maps that barely had anything to do with shooting as well. Got to find other means of playing games inspite of their respective genres. After that, never once did I get into any of these until Splatoon 3 came around although the first two games still felt interesting. Guess all that needed is adequate characters, bumpy music and several unique stealth based mechanics like ink submerging to really do the trick. heh
Ah, no way, my fanart is still just fanart. I'm not hired by Nintendo to do shameless plugs like this. I do what I do. lol

Maybe "Sprite" is a compliment. Among the BIBs, I find Sprite to be one of the lightest bags of syrup for hooking up to a soda fountain. Perhaps Wario is trying to say she is skinny. Typing of which, Sprite is one of those with its own fountains that allow a person to mix in half a dozen or more other flavors, including grape, so, yes, grape sprite does exist. Not bad, either. Then again, I'm a sucker for most grape drinks.

Yes, Captain Syrup is definitely one of the best suggestions for top "Nintendo Gal" but she still gets more attention than anyone from Code Name S.T.E.A.M. or the (Advance) Wars series. A lot of underappreciated ladies in the Nintendoverse.

"• Won't laugh at anything, but might tell you your joke was funny"

This is also me much of the time, but, on the flip side, whenever I have to be around someone like this frequently, I make it a challenge to get a chuckle or two out of them with weird questions, responses, logic, and sometimes even a proper joke.

Bertn1991 responds:

You are my kinda people. You wouldn't have any trouble getting me to laugh and smile, though.

It's a far more fluid attempt than what I usually see from others experimenting animation. It really is a pain to do well and is why there are a bunch of noticeable shortcuts, including minute-long efforts that are just two seconds of unique animation stretched out with image manipulation (close-ups, flipped versions, copy/paste'd... usually in groups of three or five) over some fun, copyright-free tune. It might be easier to create simplified variations of your OCs along with some comic panels to tell a story and then pay an animator to create some in-between frames to turn that into a cartoon... or just focus on your art and let the viewer's imagination do all the work. Perhaps if something down the road really speaks to you, the added effort might be worth the trouble to bring your vision to life... for that specific thing.

I very much doubt anyone would mind seeing the logo. Artists are not commonly known for having money to burn and if animation is not a priority, then paying a premium to do so would be kind of silly.

If you ever decide to attempt animating something to completion in the future, maybe scale it down to a small set of emotes. Just some simple collection of facial reactions or behaviors. Even I've done that much and only because I had friends too poor to pay for an actual artist to make something for their streaming channels. Begin slow, then let it grow... or whatever. IDK. I'm not an artist.

All in all, an effort was made. It does not look bad for what it is and I hope you're proud of yourself for not giving up.

Pete's a growing boy!

Because of the perspective, I'm not entirely sure whether or not Maguro is genuinely spaced away from Risukuma (as would be the case with a Pokemon game or if he is standing right behind him). Looks like Maguro is poking him directly to move forward. That and I rather not believe RK was actually tossed out and released from a pokeball. Either way, I have no doubt that Risukuma will be just as effective, if not more so, than an actual Luvdisc in this (or any other) match-up. "Lover not a fighter" is Luvdisc's entire identity. I do hope RK is able to use Puyos in this crossover. Maybe he can overwhelm Hydreigon with a few sandwiches, a landslide, and finish it with some appropriate Kuma stacking.

Side note - Maguro was the least memorable character when I was playing the two Puyo Puyo Tetris games. Should I feel bad for not remembering him until I saw this in my feed?

ICam2k responds:

He is supposed to be spaced away from RK, yes, as I did try to move him to adjust the position, but it seems that I fumbled up the perspective nonetheless. lol Like Risu's head still looks smaller compared to Maguro's. Eeeh, it is what it is.
He is tossed out of the pokeball. You don't see mansquirrelbears walking around, y'know?
Couldn't agree more. He uses chemicals to deal heavy (yet eye catchy) special attacks and then goes for paw smacking (maybe something like from JoJo's, although I barely know anything about the series other than I know the majority of people do talk about it a lot) for physical damage (they're usually the best ways to finish the fight, sandwiches aren't out of the question though)

No, I do get you. Barely any puyo games besides 20th (the one game besides 15th where it provides campaigns for all characters) ever provide attention to the purple haired boy. Like, he barely ever played any role in his debut game despite being established to be Ringo's classmate which should be just as integral. I mean, neither did Risu back then, but I suppose he just has the more noteworthy design compared to dozens of human characters introduced throughout the course of 20+ years, actually if I count in the Compile games, 30+. Puyo can be capable of coming up with weird creature designs of its own. Sukedoutara, Nasu Grave, Baldanders, The Frankesteins are the few examples of many I can point out.

Is it Toggle about to harm Toggle? Should I be singing "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" while looking at this?

Lying in bed, taking a shower, doing mundane chores... these are all common moments for the good ol' brain to suddenly fart out an idea or two to keep itself entertained. Always a smart move to have a notepad or, in your case, ibispaintx close by to quickly jot it down before you forget about it. Nothing to be concerned about. Comedians and musicians also have these moments. It's how a creative mind works. Sure, "venting" can result in ideas (any strong emotion can), but don't worry too much if it just happens casually, as well. If you keep doing something, it becomes second nature... forming new ideas included.

ToggleDragon responds:

yes, toggle is about to harm toggle, mentally. my brain is fighting itself. it does that a lot.

Ah yes, another day another picture with two hanging out with their newborn. Very cute. The view, especially, is stunning.

The Memverse is that world made by Marina, right? Is the Pearl robot controlled by the Pearl who is not a robot or is it just something Marina made as a substitute for whenever Pearl is not around?

I didn't entirely miss Mother's Day. I sent her the most expensive card available at the nearby grocery store, which, of course, was still not all that expensive, and I did call her the day before, but, while it was not food poisoning, I was also constantly stuck in bed due to a combination of work fatigue and sickness. I would get up to have some hot tea (Earl Grey with honey), become dizzy, and fall back asleep. I missed Mother's Day itself to talk with her, but I covered my butt beforehand, at least.

Happy Mother's Day to you, Cami. I hope your children brought you breakfast in bed, hand-made gifts, a card or two, and, uh, whatever else mothers receive... pie, I guess. Moms enjoy pie, right?

ICam2k responds:

Ok, clearly you got the hands on that script and translated that text piece and I feel to point that... you did a pretty a good job! Actually one of the few people to bother doing that at this point.
Got that right. Even when she got the help of other enginneers, that was only last minute when she was getting overwhelmed by the large scope of that project and other life factors being the world tour so she pretty much did all the ground work. lol
I would naturally give out the obvious answer like a dedicated geek that I am... but I ultimately choose to leave it up to that interpretation because I'm also a jerk. (aka, ill disguised way of saying that interpretations are fun lol)
I will admit that there have been times where I occasionally missed out on these types of days too. Heck, this is pretty much the only drawing based on that from me. I do celebrate the birthdays for my parents though and did even go as far as gifting them with digital portraits. (yes, they loved them, they loved them so much that my mom framed hers, I think that's sweet)
You too! If only my children can cook. If they cook at all. Wait, do I have children? Well, I do have a cockatiel that I tend to spoil like a princess, so I suppose that counts. At least I like cherry pie.
